Decanting Update

Dear Tenants & RTO members,
We would like to inform you of the outcome of our recent meeting with MBHA and list the important points below.

We are very happy to announce that we have met with the MBHA and they have agreed to work closely to help resolve the issues that had prevented us from being registered.

The meeting was very positive and we have made a lot of progress and we are very confident that we will be registered in the near future.

We are looking forward to the MBHA and the Blackwood Court RTO having a mutually rewarding relationship both in the move to Charleston and in the years ahead.

MBHA is hopeful that work on the Charleston sites will start in June but as yet don't have a completion date.

MBHA are preparing an information sheet for all tenants and this will be with us very soon.

In May all Phase 1 tenants will be visited regarding their personal needs, preferences and to show plans of  house types by Housing Officer Louise Sommerville and Local Officer Paul Carson.

We will keep you up to date with all progress as it happens. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us using the contact details below.

Yours Faithfully.
Ally Melville (RTO Chair)
Jim Stewart (RTO Secretary)
Mue Lowden (RTO Treasurer)

Craigmount sites

MBHA is continuing to make progress with the sites at Craigmount to build  temporary homes for Blackwood Court residents. The five sites have now been purchased from the Council and site investigations completed. Discussions have also been held with utility companies (such as water and gas companies) to find out about what services are currently available.

This information will allow the design team to finalise the housing layout before making a planning application to the council.

We have also been working with the architects to prepare house type designs for the new houses at Craigmount. These will be completed shortly and we hope to be in a position soon to consult with residents on the designs. It is our intention to present the up to date layout and house designs to Craigmount and Blackwood Court residents in July.

Blackwood Court

The Blackwood Court RTO and MBHA have met and agreed to develop a Charter that will cement the commitment of both organisations to work together and will make sure that residents will be fully involved in the remodeling of Blackwood Court. The Charter will also highlight behaviours and principles that will encourage clear communications and mutual respect.

To encourage residents to be fully involved in the plans for the new Blackwood Court, the association and RTO will be working together to stage a number of open days. These will bring together residents and architects to share experiences, debate issues and make sure the designs meet the needs of all residents, now and in future.

In order to progress with the design of Blackwood Court MBHA will be undertaking surveys and site investigations in the garden areas which will involve some digging and drilling. Inconvenience will be kept to a minimum and MBHA will inform you of details before works commence.

A key part of the remodeling process is the appointment of an architect and contractor. This will involve a selection process based on a written submission and presentation from a number of firms and companies. This is an important decision and residents will be invited to participate in both appointments. This process will start with the preparation of a brief which the RTO will contribute to.

As mentioned in previous newsletters, all residents will be kept informed of progress and will be encouraged to have their say on the new houses at Craigmount and Blackwood Court.

15 August 2005: We proudly announce on the 15 August 2005: Official word from M.B.H.A. has it that Blackwood Court made history once again in the 21st century because "Blackwood Court RTO is the very first RTO to have it's very own Website!!  You have set a New president!!" was the words of Elly Ravenhill the TPO.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phase 1 of Blackwood Court is soon to be demolished and rebuilt allowing the current tenants to come back to the part of town that has been home for the past 30 years.
The plan is to decant temporary to Charleston and then return back to Blackwood Court to a state of the art adapted housing with a mixture of flats and cottages all for rent.
